CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — South Carolina authorities confirm the pilot of a small plane was killed over the weekend when the aircraft crashed into a wooded area near an airport. The Charleston County Coroner’s Office identified the victim on Sunday as 64-year-old Andrew Meyer of Tampa, Florida. The Charleston County Aviation Authority said he was the only person onboard the Cessna 301 when it crashed on Johns Island around 7 p.m. Saturday. A Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman said Meyer’s plane was traveling from Rocky Mount, North Carolina, to Florida, and was attempting to land at Charleston Executive Airport when it crashed about a mile away.
