PORTLAND, Ore. — If you live in Portland and are in a tough spot financially because you’ve lost your job due to COVID-19, the city has a little help available.

Starting Monday morning, people can apply to get money from the Portland Housing Bureau’s COVID-19 Emergency Household Stabilization Fund to help pay for things like groceries or rent.

“As we began to see the economic impact of COVID-19 and the financial impact on Portlanders, we knew we needed to respond to not just the growing need but also the urgency of that need,” said Martha Calhoon, public information manager for the Portland Housing Bureau.

She said last month the bureau freed up about a million dollars from its budget to help people in a bind
