Detroit, Oakland County continue to lead state in confirmed cases Coronavirus testing (AP)

The number of confirmed cases of the coronavirus (COVID-19) in Michigan has risen to 27,001 as of Tuesday, including 1,768 deaths, state officials report.

Tuesday’s numbers represent an increase of 1,366 cases and 166 deaths. Monday’s total was 25,635 confirmed cases and 1,602 deaths.

The increasing death toll is likely the result of patients who tested positive for COVID-19 in previous weeks and were in critical care.

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer said on Monday that the state’s case curve appears to be flattening, but that it’s too early to ease up on social distancing measures.
