The Dayton region shed 44,000 jobs in April, which is more than five times the amount of local jobs lost in any other month in the last 30 years, according to federal labor data.
Dayton metro area payrolls sank to their lowest level on record, as local employment dropped 11.3%, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
However, the Dayton metro area had the smallest one-month decrease in payrolls out of the state’s 11 metro areas, the seasonally adjusted data show. Toledo saw the largest employment reduction of nearly 18%.

Employment in the Dayton metro area fell to 345,100 last month, from 389,100 in March. The metro area includes Montgomery, Miami and Greene counties.
