This obituary is part of “We Will Remember,” a series about those we’ve lost to the coronavirus.

John (Jack) Collis, 93, who lived in a memory care facility, died April 23 after contracting COVID-19.

Originally from Chicago, Collis was a Navy veteran and attended Michigan State College (now University) after leaving the service. He proudly worked for the Army Corps of Engineers in Detroit and took a bus to work from Dearborn Heights until his family was able to get a second car. Collis did survey work and flood control across Michigan and the Midwest for 30 years.
