TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida reported 8,892 new cases of COVID-19 on Monday and 77 residents’ deaths.
The new case total is the fewest the state has announced in a day since July 7 (7,347).
The state is now up to 432,747 cases and 5,931 resident deaths associated with the novel coronavirus since the start of the outbreak, according to the Florida Department of Health. At least 118 more nonresidents have died in Florida.
The new deaths include 16 in Miami-Dade County, two in Broward County and three in Palm Beach County.
Florida over the weekend passed New York and now has the second-most cases in the United States, behind only California.
South Florida leaders are trying various measures to slow the spread while avoiding another
