Nashville Metro Council members on Tuesday unanimously approved a $10 million disbursement for rent and mortgage relief due to COVID-19 economic hardship.
The funds are part of $121 million in federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security — or CARES — Act grants to soften the economic fallout from widespread business closures and job losses.
The COVID-19 Financial Oversight Committee signed off on the plan Monday and immediately submitted the late-filed resolution to council members to hurry the process.
“This is the first of many resolutions to be presented from the COVID-19 Financial Oversight Committee,” said Councilwoman Courtney Johnston, one of the committee’s nine members. “When looking at the overwhelming need, it became a priority that we act with a sense of urgency.”
