Kentucky reported 679 new cases of COVID-19 and eight new deaths Friday, Gov. Andy Beshear announced.
That brings the total number of people who have tested positive for the virus to 38,298 and the total number of deaths to 804, Beshear said.
The rate of positive tests is at 5.68%, following Thursday’s positive rate of 5.67%, Beshear said.
“We have got to get that lower,” Beshear said. “We need to get that under 5%.”
Public health officials have recommended states keep rates of positive tests to 5% or lower as a measure of whether the spread of the virus in under control.
Beshear said this week’s case counts continue a high number of positive cases, though he said
