CLOQUET, MN — The Carlton County-Cloquet airport is getting a major boost thanks to a federal grant.

At a press conference in Cloquet Friday, U.S. Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Economic Development Dana Gartzke announced a $1.2 million grant for a new airplane hangar.

The funding comes from President Donald Trump’s Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 and was matched by local and state officials.

The proposed hangar will include offices, training rooms, and an aeronautics workplace center.

Gartzke explained the grant hopes to diversify and expand the community’s economic footprint by creating nearly 40 new jobs and spur private investment in the area.
