The Empire State added private sector jobs for the sixth straight month in October, while New York’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate declined from 9.7 to 9.6 percent during the period, according to preliminary figures released by the New York state Department of Labor.

In October 2020, the number of private sector jobs in New York state increased over the month by 45,600, or 0.6 percent, to 7,340,300, the Department of Labor reported.

Even with the modest gain in private sector employment for October, New York state continues to trail job totals from 12 months ago. The Department of Labor reported the state has lost nearly 968,000 private sector jobs — a 11.5 percent decline — since October 2019.
