Democrats from the House and Senate introduced the latest version of the Clean Energy Jobs Act on Tuesday with the message that Illinois can’t wait any longer to make the transition to clean energy sources.

Advocates and lawmakers in support of the bill said now is the right time to pass the legislation with a Democrat in the White House and a new Speaker of the Illinois House to compliment the Democratic majority in the General Assembly.

The bill’s goal is to get Illinois to net zero emissions by 2050 and dependent on clean energy sources like wind and solar power. It also would transition the state away from coal by 2030.
