Daily COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations and patients in intensive-care units reported Monday in Santa Barbara County dropped to levels that haven’t been announced since December 2020.

There were 49 new positive cases reported in the county, according to the Public Health Department.

The last time the county’s daily caseload reported that low in a single day was 29 cases on Dec. 1.

To date, the county has logged a total of 31,567 confirmed COVID-19 cases since its first local case in March.

Two additional fatalities also were reported Monday, with the cumulative death toll increasing to 396.

Two residents who died both lived in the Goleta Valley, were older than age 70, and had underlying health conditions, according to Public Health.
