Study that found fault with Iowa public education was dubious itself

Despite its Page One headline (“Study says Iowa’s teaching standards in civics, US history ‘inadequate,’” Press-Citizen, June 28), the Thomas B. Fordham Institute’s report should be taken with a few grains of salt.

Not mentioned in the Press-Citizen article is the Institute’s stated mission to advocate “for charter schools and other proven models of educational choice.” Also not mentioned is Fordham’s affiliation with the American Enterprise Institute, a think-tank known for supporting supply-side economics and serving as the home of the Conservative Education Reform Network.
