Lilly to expand, add jobs with two new factories in Indiana – BioPharma Dive

Eli Lilly has announced plans to spend $2.1 billion to construct two new manufacturing facilities in Indiana as its pipeline produces a raft of new medicines.
The Indianapolis-based drugmaker will build the new plants at the LEAP Lebanon Innovation and Research District in Boone County. Lilly expects to create as many as 500 new corporate jobs at the site and said the construction work will generate temporary positions for about 1,500 workers. 
The new plants will expand Lilly’s ability to manufacture active ingredients and more technologically advanced drugs such as genetic medicines, the company said. It didn’t specify which products would be produced in Boone County.

Lilly made the announcement less than two weeks after the Food and Drug Administration cleared a major new diabetes drug called Mounjaro. All told, the company has won approval for 17 new medicines over the past eight years and expects to bring as many as four more to market in the next two years.
The list of potential launches includes donanemab for Alzheimer’s disease and the cancer treatment pirtobrutinib. Both are considered potential blockbusters along with Mounjaro (tirzepatide); Wall Street estimates for all three medicines are around $3 billion or more, according to a recent Lilly presentation.
