Overview

Student Support Services supports the mission of Adams 12 Five Star Schools to accelerate student academic performance and nurture student social development. The Five Star District offers a full continuum of services for students with disabilities.  All schools are equipped to meet the mild/moderate needs of students with disabilities, while a variety of center-based programs and more intensive services are offered at multiple schools throughout the district.  

Our Guiding Principles

All students are general education students first

All resources in a school are integrated to increase student learning

Collaborative problem solving removes barriers to student learning

Student progress is monitored to determine response to intervention

Interventions are supplemental to Universal First Best Instruction

Student learning is the outcome

Referral Programs

Adult Supported Transition and Recreation Program (ASTAR) (Ages 18-21)ASTAR is a special education program for students with severe cognitive disability. Due to age and limitations in functional academics, the program more intensively focuses in the area of transition and life skills.

Independence Academy (Grades 6-12)Independence Academy offers in-district students (grades 6-12) on an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) and with challenging behavior an opportunity to learn new academic and behavioral skills in a small, therapeutic setting.
