Fiesta Mexicana to celebrate Hispanic culture with food, entertainment and games –

MT. MORRIS TOWNSHIP, MI – The 64th Fiesta Mexicana this weekend in the Mt. Morris area will greet participants with live music, food and games for kids.The event designed to celebrate Hispanic culture is set to take place from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, located at 2316 W. Coldwater Road in Mt. Morris Township.Tomas Tello, the event’s organizer, encourages all people to attend and is expecting at least a thousand people.“It’s basically bringing us together and unifying us — letting other Hispanics and the community know that we’re here,” he said. “And Fiesta means a lot to us because it’s not only Mexican and Latino folks, but Blacks and whites, Asians and anybody else, no matter what’s bringing you together and making them know that we are brothers and sisters in Christ.”Musical acts expected to perform include Grupo Viento from Grand Rapids, Conjunto Rey out of Pontiac, and Karizma Band from Holland.Tello also claims the best fajitas in Michigan will be on display, with members of the church cooking up the dish.“Our fajitas are a little different and they are easier to eat than in a restaurant,” Tello said. “They are made on a grill and people love it. But people also love eating our tacos and we are going to have a taco eating contest. People love the Mexican food we provide.”The Fiesta comes on the heels of Mexican Independence Day on Sept. 16.A Spanish bingo game will be played and a Bilingual Mass session will be held at 4 p.m. A beer tent stays opens from 5-11 p.m.Latino T-shirts, candles, oils and novelties are expected to be sold by vendors.Tello was originally supposed to be the chair of entertainment, but said he has been forced …
