MITCHELL — The Mitchell Board of Education will consider approval of a site sports package when it convenes for its next meeting. The board will make its decision at its next meeting Monday, Sept. 12 at L.B. Williams Elementary School. The meeting, which is open to the public, is scheduled for 5 p.m.The board had previously issued specifications for a site sports package that was designed to complete work on one practice athletic field and two field events for the track. School officials were hoping to have work on those completed and usable for the 2023 spring sports season. However, Joe Graves, superintendent of the Mitchell School District, said the lone bid that came in for the project was disappointingly high.“The amount bid was well above budgetary expectations,” Graves wrote in his agenda notes.
The bid that came in was from Schoenfelder Construction, in the amount of $898,800. Graves said in his notes that he would recommend rejecting the bid. Should the board agree to that suggestion, the design committee would consider other options for addressing track and athletics needs in the spring. The current sites in question will be displaced when the district begins construction on the new Mitchell High School building, likely in the spring.
Board policy revisions
Graves will also present potential changes to board policies 220, which refers to regular board meetings, and policy 228, which refers to public participation at board meetings.
