SHARON, Oct. 12 — The House Democratic Policy Committee convened a hearing in Mercer County Wednesday morning to discuss education funding policies in Pennsylvania, specifically the promise of Level Up funding, the need for charter school funding reform, and the threat of school vouchers.

“As Democratic Chair of the House Education Committee, one of my main priorities is making sure our students in public schools are receiving fair funding, regardless of the school district they attend and the zip code they live in,” said state Rep. Mark Longietti, D-Mercer. “Today’s hearing helped show what funding issues education officials are seeing in our schools, and what we need to do fix the problem.”

Joe Ciresi, D-Montgomery, would address this and many other fair funding issues brought up during Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s policy hearings.

“Over 90% of Mercer County students attend public schools, a true endorsement of the public school system. I’m not attacking charter schools, but there needs to be more accountability and fair funding,” said McGonigle. …
