A deepfake video of Mark Zuckerberg praising Congress for its inaction on tech antitrust legislation is creating waves after its debut in an ad Tuesday. “Well, that was a close one,” an actor dressed as the mustached Monopoly man says before morphing into Meta Platforms Inc.
Chief Executive Zuckerberg.

Activist group Demand Progress is behind the two-and-a-half minute spot following repeated attempts by consumer advocates urging the House and Senate to vote on a bill that would prevent Big Tech from giving its products preferential treatment over rivals and alleviate Alphabet Inc.’s

Google and Apple Inc.’s
sway over app developers.

The ad concludes with this disclaimer: “The Zuck is fake, but the message is real.” It urges citizens to contact Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., and demand a vote on legislation before the next session of Congress convenes in January. Meta could not be immediately reached for comment.
