Dow Jones Newswires: French industrial production falls in October amid weaker external demand, high energy prices

French industrial production significantly fell in October, reflecting weakening external demand and high energy prices. Total industrial output–comprising output in manufacturing, energy and construction–declined by 2.6% on month after a revised 0.9% monthly decline in September. Economists polled by FactSet expected factory output to post a decrease of 0.2%.

Manufacturing output–the largest component of industrial production–declined 2.0% in October on month and energy production fell by 5.6%. However, construction output rose 1.1% on month, the report showed. Write to Maria Martinez at maria.martinez@wsj.com
