New Taipei City Boosts Tourism In Thailand With Special Bangkok Event
Friday, September 13, 2024
The Tourism and Travel Department of the New Taipei City Government hosted a special tourism promotion in Bangkok, Thailand, on September 6. Collaborating with the local hospitality sector, they showcased New Taipei’s tourist attractions to professionals in the Thai travel industry. The delegation also engaged with key organizations, including the Taiwan Tourism Administration (Bangkok Office), the Thai Travel Agents Association (TTAA), and the Thai-Taiwan Business Association, with the goal of inspiring more Thai travelers to explore New Taipei as a premier travel destination.
The Tourism and Travel Department continues to spotlight internationally acclaimed events like New Taipei City’s Christmas Land, the Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival, and the upcoming World Masters Games 2025 in both Taipei and New Taipei City. They’ve also fine-tuned their promotional efforts to appeal to Thai visitors, focusing on local culinary delights. Signature New Taipei dishes such as Tamsui Ah Gei, Jiufen taro balls, Wanli crabs, Shimen rice dumplings, Sanxia “bull horn” croissants, and Wulai’s indigenous bamboo tube rice were featured prominently on a striking 3-meter-high illustrated welcome wall, drawing significant attention. Popular local souvenirs like Pinglin Pouchong Tea Egg Rolls, Sanxia Biluochun Tea, and Yingge porcelain tea sets were a hit among Thai travel professionals.
Yang Tsung-Min, Director-General of New Taipei’s Tourism and Travel Department, shared that over 180,000 Thai tourists visited Taiwan by May this year, positioning Thailand as the third-largest source of Southeast Asian tourists after Malaysia and the Philippines. Following a successful promotional event in Malaysia in May, the department has ramped up its efforts to attract more Thai visitors, recently hosting a special promotional dinner in Bangkok.
New Taipei also highlighted regional travel packages across Keelung, Taipei, New Taipei, and Taoyuan, distributing brochures to promote Taipei and Taoyuan specifically. Yang emphasized that the collaboration between Keelung, Taipei, New Taipei, and Taoyuan has already been well-established through the Keelung-Taipei-New Taipei-Taoyuan Collaboration and Exchange Platform. Promoting travel across Northern Taiwan benefits all four cities, especially after a successful joint promotional event held in South Korea in July. Yang is optimistic that future partnerships among the four cities will only strengthen.
