A clean home is essential for the health and well-being of the entire family. Moreover, it provides a conducive environment free from nasty smell associated with chemicals, grease, and rotting refuse.
Keeping our homes clean calls for dedication which may prove tiresome because of doing the chore every day. Additionally, cleaning of grease stains left for long makes your cleaning more difficult. Water alone cannot clean grease, and too much scrubbing may damage the finish of the surface.
Some of the ways to get rid of grease at our homes include:
1. Using Vinegar
Inhibiting acidic character, vinegar help soak and dissolve tough, crunchy food grease making it easy to clean using a soft sponge. For best cleaning outcome, apply when the surface is hot or re-heat the cooking tool. Vinegar does not cut into grease as alkalis do, but it relatively reduces the effort required to clean the oil.
2. Salt and Rubbing Alcohol
The powerful cleansing property of salt combined with alcohol has a pleasing result when used as cleaning agent. For effective result mix salt and rubbing alcohol in the ratio of 1:4. The solution will help remove tough grease by rubbing fabrics like rags, carpet, and cushions which cannot be washed until the grease stain lifts away. After that, vacuum the excess salt and use a damp cloth to wipe out salt stains left behind.
3. Application of Flour
If the grease spill is recent, that is, in liquid form, cleaning it immediately before it becomes a solid sticky mess would be easier. The flour will absorb the liquid grease. Make sure it has cooled before torching it. This method does not involve the use of chemicals.
Always remember that grease trap cleaning system will be clogged when left unchecked for some time. However, during cleaning, chemicals should not be used to maintain its quality and increase periods of performance.
4. Baking Soda
Baking soda is an alkali that when dissolved in water, it does a great job of dissolving grease. It has an added advantage because it does not damage the surface or your hands due to its mild nature. By mixing three spoons of the baking soda with a cup of water and using a soft cloth, you can clean any hard surface such as stove top, cooking pan and many others.
5. Soap Cleaning
Being made of two different ends, one end of the soap will absorb the grease molecules. When washing soft surfaces like table linens, applying soap and rinsing the cloth will leave it grease free. Should any oil spill on your clothes or linen, use kitchen soap as it does a great job and will leave your linen sparkling clean.
It is so wonderful to know we do not rely on mysterious ingredients to clean up even the toughest grease stains. The ability of a grease to hold on sediments can result to blockage of pipes hence thorough cleaning should be done on a regular basis.
Getting rid of grease will make a kitchen pleasant, prevent air from being held in the house and eliminate bad smell associated with stale food. Grease-free environment will not inconvenience you because no significant damage will occur if cleaning is frequent.
