FLINT, Mich. (WJRT) – Thousands of jobs are available in Flint and thousands of people are looking for jobs.Michigan Works hopes to connect them next week during a job fair at its office. The organization is hosting the event from 1 to 4 p.m. Tuesday at 711 N. Saginaw St. in Flint.Michigan Works says there are more than 10,500 open positions advertised in Flint on Indeed.com. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics lists the city’s unemployment rate stands at 6.8%.Statistics show nearly 12,000 people in Flint are looking for work and employers are making quick hiring decisions to fill open jobs.“Most employers are short staffed and are looking to hire individuals immediately. Space will be made available for employers to interview any potential candidates on the spot,” said Michigan Works Business Services Manager Cindy Thornthwaite. “Most employers in attendance currently have multiple openings and are hiring individuals to fill those positions.”Employers taking part in Tuesday’s job fair include:Barrette Outdoor Living, which makes lattice, fence, railings and hardware.
