Jamango raises $2.5M to launch browser-based game maker this year

Browser-based game creation platform Jamango announced today that it has raised $2.5 million in funding. It plans to use this funding to accelerate the launch of its platform, which allows users to create and play simple games to be played in-browser, later this year. Elkstone and Delta Partners co-led the pre-seed funding round, with angel investors — Brian Caulfield, the chair of Scale Ireland; Brendan O’Driscoll, Figma’s VP of product; and Conor Sheahan, founder of CKS Finance — adding additional funding.

Jamango offers block-based building tools with a no-code editor to creators who wish to make games that can be played instantly via browser. It requires no downloads and can be used on any device that supports browsers. The company plans to launch the creation platform later this year, though it’s currently working with several creators in closed alpha.

GamesBeat spoke with Jamango co-founder Adam Dalton about what need Jamango fulfills for the game market. Dalton says the platform reduces barriers for aspiring game creators: “As a browser-native platform, there are no downloads required, and therefore no worrying about what device or version your friends have—Jamango works on any device, anywhere, at any time. You can simply share a link with your friends and jump into a game together. We believe that browser games are making a comeback, and Jamango! will be a key part of that resurgence.”

The company plans to use the funding to accelerate the platform’s growth and recruit more talent for its team. As Dalton says, “The immediate plan for the funding is to continue to form a world-class team of people who share our mission to empower the next generation of creators… We don’t doubt the enormous challenge ahead of us, but we believe in our mission to empower creators and provide a new place for people to play, connect and create without the existing barriers of today’s gaming ecosystems.”
